Challenges of First Year Teaching

Let’s get started talking about the rewards and challenges of those first years of teaching. You know they are unique and immeasurable.
My first three questions:
1. What do/did you expect of teaching?
2. What do you think society/the community expect of teachers?
3. What should teachers know and be able to do?

Did you know that the number of new teachers retained measures the success of the "induction" or professional development program for new teachers? A well-constructed, ongoing professional development plan delivered by teaching professionals, coupled with one-on-one mentoring, is the most effective approach in accomplishing teacher retention.
What do you think?

I know that's right. If I had had someone to help me when I first started, I wouldn't not have struggled so much those first five years. If there had been an alternative to teaching then, I would have turned my keys in. I just am not of this "feel good generation" that feels that if things are too tough,or the rewards are not there - Goodbye!
